Front Porch Review
Over his morning coffee he sat,
dreaming of yesterday’s spring
and the hill country of his youth,
remembering summers of peace
and autumn days when he thought
life a forever thing. The world lay before
him then, a ripe field awaiting harvest.
Now beside this sad cup, a winter hand,
so withered and so gray, an old man’s
hand he barely recognized as his own.
Then his gaze found her playful smile.
In the hazel warmth of her eyes he
felt like spring again, the rich loam of
her love yielding a gentle harvest of joy
Jamie Dedes, mother of world-class actor Richard Lingua and mother-in-law of writer/photographer Karen Fayeth, is constrained by challenges from pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, connective tissue disease, and a rare blood cancer (p-vera). This leaves plenty of time for her primary love: literature. She reads and writes from her comfy bed, where she’s carved out a busy life. Jamie runs The Poet by Day jamiededes.com, an info hub for writers which also supports freedom of artistic expression and human rights. Jamie founded The Bardo Group/Beguines, a virtual arts community, manages The BeZine thebezine.org, and started virtual 100,000 Poets for Change. It is held every September in concert with Global 100TPC.org and with American-Israeli poet, Michael Dickel, as Zine master of ceremonies. She freelances, owned a PR firm, was a former columnist and associate editor to a regional employment newspaper. Her work is featured widely in print and digital publications.
