unclosed poem - Cynthia McCain

they come because they love us
they leave because they’re angry
we’re hurt when they’re angry
and we’re angry when they leave
why is it that love and anger
are in the same drawer
like forks and knives

Cynthia McCain is a transplanted Oregonian now living in rural New Mexico. After a career in Pacific Northwest forest ecology, she is adjusting enthusiastically to living in the desert. She writes with two poetry groups, finding community and incentive to write with fellow poets in her old and new homes.
